About Isibonelo
A public high school in the heart of KwaMashu, Durban, serving its community with dedication since 1959. We are raising funds to give our learners the facilities they need to reach their full potential.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Welcome to Isibonelo High School. Since our founding in 1959, we have stood as a pillar of educational excellence in KwaMashu, Durban. Our isiZulu name, meaning "example" or "role model", captures the ambition we hold for every learner who walks through our gates.
We are a proud public school, but we cannot do this work alone. With your support, we will give our learners the science labs, computer rooms, and library spaces they deserve — and through them, change the trajectory of countless families.
Our Vision
To be a school that lives up to its name — a true isibonelo, an example of academic excellence, dignity, and service for KwaMashu and beyond.
Our Mission
To give every learner — regardless of background — the spaces, tools, and teachers they need to compete, contribute, and thrive in a changing world.
Our values
We hold our learners and ourselves to the highest standard.
We rise together — every child belongs and is responsible for the next.
Honest in word, honest in work, honest in service.
We believe in what our learners can become — and we act on it.
A school built by, and for, KwaMashu
Generations of Isibonelo alumni have gone on to serve as nurses, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and public servants. Their success is our story — and the reason we keep building.
